On behalf of the convening church, Rev. Bryan Vanderhorst opened with the reading of 1 Kings 3:1-15, inviting those present to sing Psalm 72: 1, 4 and leading in prayer. After the examination of the credentials, classis was constituted. The suggested officers from the last classis took their place: as chairman – Rev. Bryan Vanderhorst, as vice-chairman – Rev. Jeff Poort, and as clerk – Rev. Tyler Vandergaag. The chairman thanked the members of the convening church for their work.
The agenda was adopted with some minor amendments. Elora requested the judgment of classis as per Article 71 CO in relation to Rev. Theo Wierenga. After discussion in closed restricted session, classis decided to approve Elora’s request to proceed to deposition. The deputies of Regional Synod gave concurring advice.
Question period as per Article 44 of the Church Order was held. Two churches requested advice. Advice was given.
Classis received names for nominations for the Committee for Needy Churches and the Committee of Appeal. Appointed to the Committee for Needy Churches: Br. John Vanderwoerd. Appointed to the Committee of Appeal: Rev. Eric Kampen and as alternate, br. Richard Hoeksema.
The next meeting of classis is set to be convened by Guelph Emmanuel on March 19, 2025, with the alternate date of June 25, 2025, with suggested officers: as chairman Rev. Mark Vanderlinde, as vice-chairman Rev. Tyler Vandergaag, and as clerk Rev. Bryan Vanderhorst.
After adopting the Acts and approving the Press Release, the chairman led in singing and prayer, and classis was closed.
