Pastor Darren Feenstra, on behalf of the Convening Church Jubilee Canadian Reformed
Church in Ottawa, welcomed the Classis delegates and called the meeting to order. He read 1
Peter 1:22-25 and reflecting on it briefly, he leads in prayer. The assembly then sings
“Speak O Lord.”
After examination of the credentials, Pastor Darren reported that all was in order. It is noted that
one alternate delegate is seated. Pastor Winston Bosch and Pastor Bill DeJong were in
attendance as examiners. Pastor Darren declared Classis constituted.
The appointed officers take their place: Chairman: Rev. Clarence VanderVelde,
Vice-chairman: Robert Speijer, Elder delegate from the Ottawa-Jubilee church; as Clerk:
Rev. Darren Feenstra.
The agenda was adopted.
Examination of student Kevin Wattel
Pastor Ian Wildeboer leads in prayer for student Kevin Wattel, to ask for God's blessing and to
encourage Kevin as he delivered his sermon on Matt 5:17-20. Classis then proceeds in closed
session to discuss his sermon. His sermon was judged to be sufficient. In open session,
candidate Kevin Wattel is examined on the OT, the NT, doctrine, personal life, and public
ministry. With thankfulness, classis deemed that student Kevin Wattel sustained his
examination. In open session, the chairman informed Kevin of this decision. Pastor Gerrit
prayed a prayer of thankfulness.
Memorabilia: Blessings has approached Pastor Bryn MacPhail to serve as pastor of
discipleship, pending an examination. He is currently serving in the Evangelical Presbyterian
Church in Nassau, the Bahamas. Pastor Chris Bosch recently spent some time in the hospital.
Reports: The various church reports are received with thankfulness and each church is
prayed over individually.
The delegates from the churches were asked, according to Article 44, C.O., whether the
ministry of the office bearers is being continued, whether the decisions of the major assemblies
are being honored, and whether there is any matter in which the consistories need the advice of
classis. All churches answered yes, yes, and no, respectively, with the exception that three
churches sought advice from classis. Advice was given in closed session.
Classis made the following appointments for the next Classis:
- The convening church for the next Classis will be Toronto-Bethel.
